La Receta Con Mandados
For this project our goal was to learn commands in Spanish and experiment with new types of foods. While learning the commands it was really easy for me to understand because of Ven De Sal Haz Ten Ve Pon Sé. Which stands for come, say, leave, make, have, go, put, and be. I really enjoyed making a recipe and trying the different foods.
El Proyecto de Mi Inmigrante
Over the past few weeks we have been writing biographies of a family member that immigrated to the United States. We wrote these in the past tense to work on imperfecto and preterito words in Spanish. Also to connect to our families and learn about where we came from. I found out that my family came from the Netherlands and that I was related to the old mayor of New York, Wilhemus Beekman.

Day of the Dead is a holiday typically celebrated from November 1-2. Mainly in Mexico or places where Mexican heritage is prevalent, it reunites the living with their lost loved ones. People make ofrendas to honor the dead. Which are decorated beautifully with marigolds, sugar skulls, photos, and their favorite foods or drinks. Their offerings are meant to guide the souls of the dead to their families so they can celebrate together for a night. The veil between the world of the living and the dead is believed to be lifted one night a year. It is rooted in ancient Aztec and colonial traditions that got transformed into what we now call Day of the Dead.
La Calavera
In the literal sense a calavera is a skull. While figuratively it is a kind of artwork and or poem that was made popular in the early 20th century when Jose Guadalupe Posada created them to make fun of the politicians and wealthy who controlled Mexico at the time.
We wrote poems about skeletons and how they got that way. They could either be famous people or people we know, currently dead or alive. I got Elon Musk and wrote a story about how when he was flying into space he lost everything but his bones and turned into a skeleton. Then we made skeletons and some type of visual aid to go along with it.

El Obituario
To honor one of our fallen ancestors we were tasked with making obituaries. They were about their lives, favorite things, and their connection to us. We also added photos and fun borders to make them more appealing. Then we all hung them up on a table to look like an ofrenda, to show our respect and appreciation to the ones who can before us. Mine was about my great grandmother, Nana, Eva Jane Smith.
